Chasing Byblos and Cracking a Dead Language. Part 4: Byblos

The Dutch research, Jan Best, http://www.jangpbest.nl/, reports in 2009 that he deciphered the Byblos language. See also, Ugarit-Forschungen 40 2008, p 129-133.

I understand that some linguists remain skeptical.

What can help the situation? I propose that high speed computer analysis is going to be of great use in this work. For which, see my earlier articles on the subject, and look for more coming soon!

    It’s been a long time since you’ve posted an update to your work on the Byblos script…How is it going?

    Also, what is the general consensus on Best’s proposed decipherment. As I don’t read Dutch, I can’t comment myself.

  2. My work is slow — I work on it about once a month, but I generally make leaps. I have to wait for my software to be finished before I can comment more on Best. Slow going…
